Product Description

SCIENTIFIC NAME:   Medicago sativa

If you’re taking anti-rejection drugs for kidney transplant, don’t use any form of alfalfa. In rare cases the herb can interact poorly with the medication, leading to serious adverse reactions. Similarly, treat alfalfa the same way you treat any other green, leafy vegetable if you take Coumadin. Alfalfa is rich in vitamin K that can interfere with the drug’s anti-coagulant effects. Do not use if you have an autoimmune disease, not to be used with birth control pills & warfarin.  Alfalfa seed contains canavanine, an amino acid that can cause enlarged spleen and abnormal levels of red blood cells with high doses. Limit intake to no more than 3 tablespoons raw seed per day. Avoid entirely if you have systemic lupus erythematosus or have had a recent kidney transplant.
